An unusual Victorian silver Sovereign Case in the shape of a heart . The shape and the exquisite engraving and decoration make this Sovereign case an exceptional item. The case opens with a press button to the top revealing a spring action single sovereign compartment.
The underside of the lid is fully hallmarked for the Birmingham Assay office with a date mark for 1898 along with the Lion Passant indicating sterling silver. (The maker's marks is worn and only the second letter, B, is clear; could be M.B for Mitchell Bosley & Co.) Partial marks are also visible on the rim of the sovereign compartment.
This is a rare sovereign case, in tip top condition. No dents or repairs to the silver. The beautiful engraving is clear and crisp and the quality of the silver maker is most apparent!
