A superior, Victorian, solid silver vesta case, in a very unusual design.   Both the front and back are smartly decorated with a very stylish ribbed design. The lid is hinged to one side the opens and closes firmly with a nice snap. Hallmarks are clearly visible on the inside lip of the Vesta case for the Birmingham Assay office with a date mark for 1890 and maker's marks for the silversmith Joseph Whitten.   The Lion Passant is also visible indicating the finest sterling silver.

This vesta case feels good solid,  is a heavy gauge of silver and feels nice to hold in the hand. A rare item in this design!
