A very attractively engraved and nicely shaped solid silver vesta case; rectangular shaped with curved corners and engraved to both sides with flowers and leaves. There is an vacant cartouche in the centre of the front. Hinged to one side the Vesta opens and closes perfectly. When opened clear hallmarks are visible on the inside lip for the Birmingham Assay office with a date mark for 1896 and Lion Passant indicating sterling silver. The maker's mark is also very clear for the silver maker: EV Pledge & Son. The inside of the lid has a gilt finish. There is a good fastening loop to one side for attachment.
A lovely vesta, unusually shaped and in great condition.
