A charming Victorian solid silver stamp case with a plain polished exterior and a lovely gilt interior which contains a single pocket for your penny blacks or penny reds. Rectangular in shape, the stamp case opens with a thumb notch and opens smoothly with a hinge of just the right tension to let the pocket stand upright.
Hallmarks are clearly visible for the Birmingham Assay Office with a date mark for 1892 and Lion Passant mark indicating sterling silver, with the makers mark for Deakin and Francis Ltd.. Also hallmarked inside the lid.
Condition: There is a small chip of silver missing from part of the hinge (see photos for details) but this is not very noticeable, and the hinge works very well. Also, some surface scratches commensurate with age.
