A superb deep oval footed silver bowl by renowned silver makers Mappin and Webb. The bowl has a distinctive shape being oval with a full and rounded body which pinches in towards the top where each side flares out at into a peak on two sides and a more rounded shape at the ends. The longer sides are ornately shaped with curving swags which are pierced through, and the ends are solid forming handles or grips.
The bowl itself has vacant cartouches to each side and hightly decorative surrounds of flowers and spiky leaves plus a reeded and scalloped border below. Four delightful tapering feet finish off the highly decorative design with scrolls.
This super quality bowl exhibits true artistry and would make a super sugar bowl or a very generous bon bon dish.
Hallmarked London 1903 with the Mappin and Webb makers mark and with their full name impressed to the base.
