A fabulous and unusual Victorian silver bottle stopper depicting a man carousing with a jug of ale whilst sat upon a beer barrel. The detail is fabulous: his drinking arm is raised and his mouth open in song or a cheer, and he has the Tudor costume of a Shakespearean character such as Falstaff or Sir Toby Belch.  This is a humorous celebration of the pleasures of drinking which would make a wonderful gift for a wine connoisseur or bon viveur. Hallmarked with the lion passant and marks for London 1867. Makers mark is E.P. for Edward Pairpoint.
