This pillow shaped silver sovereign case is beautifully engraved to the front and back in an ivy leaf pattern worked in relief with smooth and textured detail. The front has a shield shaped empty cartouche in the centre.
The case has a spring loaded hinged lid with a good action which opens by a push button. It also has a loop for attachment. Once inside, the interior with a rich gilt finish is revealed. There is a single sprung compartment to hold a sovereign, and the cover of this receptacle has fine engine turned engraving. The lid of the case can hold stamps, which are kept in place via a small edge detail.
Superb craftmanship is very evident in this lovely case.
Condition: in lovely antique collector's condition, no dents or marks to the silver and the lid opens and closes perfectly.
Hallmarked inside the lid with marks for sterling silver , Birmingham 1896 by silversmith Henry Williamson Ltd.
