An unusual Victorian solid silver Brooch in the form of a shield. The brooch is decorated in the Aesthetic Movement style, featuring birds and flowers, as well as geometric patterns. On the back of the brooch are the clear hallmarks for Birmingham 1881, along with the Lion Passant indicating sterling silver and the maker's mark for the silvermaker Henry Cook. There is a good fastening pin on the back.
A very pleasing brooch for anyone who admires Aesthetic Movement Jewellery design.
Condition: The front of the brooch is in great condition. There is some slight natural marking on the back and the pin has a slight bend, however, works perfectly well.
Hallmarks: Birmingham 1881 by Henry Cook.
